How I went from mechanical engineer to “people engineer”

I didn’t start my career in people or performance.

I started in engineering. I loved learning about how things work. I later took that curiosity to business school and eventually to running a company.

That’s when I realized I’d missed something in business school. The best company was not the one with the smartest strategy or lowest cost of capital. It was the one with the most engaged people.

And, thus began my life’s learning ambition: to understand how people work. Specifically, why are some people consistently more successful than others and how can we all achieve more of our potential.
